EARLIER this year, the Review printed some fairly outspoken remarks by residents of Southesk Court, Ferryden, about the state of repair of the premises.

A strong view was expressed that maintenance of the property was not being properly carried out.

However, Angus Council’s neighbourhood services committee agreed on Thursday to spend £793,000 on upgrading various flats.

The work will involve: modernisation of 20 flats including the removal of existing kitchens and sanitary ware, installation of new fitted kitchens, level access showers and replacement sanitary ware, lining external walls internally with insulation, upgrading loft insulation, general internal alterations, rewiring, replacement of existing heating, replacement of internal and external doors, full internal redecoration and the provision of new floor coverings together with all associated services and external works. Six existing flats will be converted to three new one-bedroomed flats.

There will be a new bin storage area, additional accommodation for laundry, a replacement fire alarm system and improved security.

It is hoped that work will start in January or February.

The proposal was welcomed by local Councillor David May, who said that it showed commitment to the facility, including flats both occupied and unoccupied, and some long-term unoccupied ones.
