MONTROSE Academy pupils will celebrate the United Nations Day of Peace with a concert on September 20, the day before the official event.

They will be supporting a non-profit organisation called Peace One Day, founded by Jeremy Gillies.

Peace One Day’s objective is to create a Global Ceasefire with a fixed calendar date - September 21.

The Montrose Academy Musical Association, known as MAMA, will hold the concert in the Montrose Academy hall, starting at 7pm. Tickets are £4 for adults and £2 for children. Montrose Academy welcomes everyone to come along to enjoy the show!

Montrose Academy is also having a short film screening at lunchtime in the library on the Day of Peace so that pupils can see what Peace One Day are doing in the world.

A poetry competition and Design-a-T-Shirt competition are being held to promote peace.

The concert is the Academy’s main event and involves a musical story about peace performed by pupils, a raffle to raise funds for Peace One Day, and an opportunity for competition winners to perform or collect their entries. The funds from the raffle will be donated to the organisation.

The organisers say: “Peace One Day is inspiring our year, and hopefully it will inspire you. To become inspired, please come along and save our planet.”
