Delight as new Montrose noticeboard unveiled

MONTROSE Community Council have said they're "absolutely delighted" with the new town noticeboard in the High Street.

The double-sided noticeboard, resplendent in blue with a gold, rustic font, already features a map and information on the town on one side.

While the other side is currently blank, it is available for community groups to publicise details of upcoming events which visitors and residents can take part in.

Community council chair Joan Stott, along with community councillors Bill Gibson and Terry Wood, went down to admire the vandal-proof noticeboard on Tuesday.

Mrs Stott said: "We are very impressed. We went to the nearest manufacturer we could, which was in Arbroath. We did try Montrose as we believe in using local.

"We were shown various designs and Angus Council gave us advice as well. It's nice to work in a partnership and be proactive.

"There are no proper noticeboards around apart from the ball house. We're absolutely delighted and it's nice to get the coat of arms. There is always someone looking at it."

The community councillors said Roy Madden, of Angus Council, had done a wonderful job and they were delighted with the manufacturer, Colin Keillor.

Mr Gibson said: "Local groups can use it at particular times of year. It's placed in a well used area."

Mr Wood said he thought the community would welcome the new noticeboard. He said: "It was required, and it will be used by tourists and residents. Montrose Community Council should be complimented in getting it in the centre of town. It is a good focal point."

Angus Council agreed to fund the noticeboard last year and the community council have chosen the design and colours over previous months.

Any community groups who would like to put information in the noticeboard should get in touch with Montrose Community Council chair, Joan Stott, on 01674 671392.
