Deputy Lieutenant honour

LOCAL charity fundraiser and dancing school principal Robina Addison has been appointed as a deputy lieutenant of Angus.

Mrs Addison will replace Jonathan Stansfeld, who will retire at the end of the year, after holding the post for 25 years.

As well as being principal of the Gordon School of Dancing, Mrs Addison is also a former Citizen of the Year, a member of Montrose Rotary, a choreographer for many local theatre groups and a keen supporter of many charities.

In September she and her pupils donated a specially designed bench to the town, in the form of a butterfly, in memory of 10-year-old Adana Forsyth. Adana, known as the butterfly girl and who died last year, suffered from the distressing skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

The school has also raised many thousands of pounds for EB charity Debra and to help fund research into a cure for the disease.

Mrs Addison is also chairwoman of Montrose Highland Games and Montrose Twinning Association, and in 1999 formed the Marquis of Montrose Society to raise money for a statue to James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose, which was unveiled in Castle Place in August the following year.

In 1996 she was made an MBE for her services to the community.

Lords lieutenant are the Queen's personal representatives in a county. Deputy lieutenants in turn are chosen by the Lord Lieutenant to assist them with their duties. They receive their commission only when Scottish ministers have been told that the Sovereign does not disapprove of the appointment.

Mrs Addison said she was "thrilled" to have been chosen.

She said: "I'm delighted to have been given such an honour although I'm still stunned.

"It was totally unexpected by I'm looking forward to taking up the appointment and hope I can fill Jonathan's shoes."
