Drifting boat clips bridge

A DRIFTING fishing boat in Montrose Harbour drew spectators on Tuesday morning, as the current dragged it closer and closer to the road bridge.

Local vessel ‘Storma Isle’ was heading to berth when she lost power.

Harbourmaster Brian Forrest told the Review that as soon as the incident came to his attention he ordered the pilot boat ‘Mare Rosa’ to assist the stricken boat.

The mast of ‘Storma Isle’ clipped the underside of the bridge, but damage was minimal.

She was then taken under tow to her berth.

Mr Forrest confirmed that there were no injuries to crew.

He said: “It was not a major incident. The sea was calm and the matter was dealt with in copybook fashion.”
