End in sight to A935 bad bend saga

The realignment of a bad double bend on the road between Montrose and Brechin is to be brought before Angus Council this week.

A report has been prepared for this week’s Communities Committee of the council, outlining the latest position on the chicane at the Mill of Dun on the A935.

The realignment of the bend at the The Mill of Dun bend was meant to be done in 2012 as part of a three-phase £1.7 million project by Angus Council to improve the A935.

However, this has been delayed due to land transfer between National Trust for Scotland and Angus Council.

The report states that legal agreement is expected this month and a transfer to be completed in September.

It is hoped that the local authority can complete construction work in the financial year 2014-15.

Montrose Councillor Bill Duff said: “It is good that this long saga is now nearing completion. This bend is dangerous and its removal will make this piece of road significantly safer.

“I am pleased that eventually National Trust for Scotland and the council have reached an agreement to allow this work to progress.”
