Eva’s volunteering was worth £50,600

MRS EVA Cruickshank, who has been a volunteer with the Cancer Research charity shop in Montrose since the day it opened, retired on Wednesday.
She was there when the shop at 176 High Street opened on June 15, 1990, and she has worked for 22 years and one week.
She has turned her hand to all tasks, from serving to dealing with donations in the back shop.
And area manager Ken Donaldson came up with an interesting statistic.
He said that a calculation has been done which proves that a year’s worth of four-hour shifts benefits Cancer Research by £2,300.
Therefore, Eva’s work has given the charity a grand sum of £50,600 over her 22 years.
He joked: “You could have stayed at home for the 22 years and written us a cheque for the £50,600 instead!”
Mr Donaldson then presented Eva with a lovely bunch of flowers, and she was also given a large greetings card from colleagues.
Eva thanked friends and colleagues, and said that she had enjoyed every minute of working at the shop.
She is a local lass, who previously worked in Clark’s clothing shop and then Henderson, florist.
She and her late husband, Bruce, have four children: Elaine Wilkie, who lives in Ferryden; Audrey Birse, Forfar; George, Montrose; and Lorna, Guildford.
Unable to be present, but wishing Eva all the very best were shop manager Gill Gregory; and a former manager, Kate Anderson.
