Golfers from all over Scotland

THIS year’s Texas Scramble for Help for Heroes, at Montrose Golf Links, raised the impressive sum of £4,143.46.

Golfers from all over Scotland took part in the event, organised by Royal Montrose Golf Club, with 47 teams of four representing around 40 clubs.

It was the second Help for Heroes fund-raiser held by the Royal Montrose Club; the first one, the previous year, also raised more than £4,000.

A cheque for the sum raised was accepted by Andrew Ogilvy-Wedderburn; the Angus and East Perthshire representative of Help For Heroes.

The event included a silent auction and raffle. Royal Montrose Club captain, Michael Cummins, said he was: “Absolutely delighted with the response to the competition and the generosity of those who donated prizes.”

He also thanked tournament convener Ron Henderson, starter Andy Petrie and all club members who helped out on the day.

Mr Cummins added: “We are so pleased with the result of this year’s fund-raiser that we have already set the date for next year’s event: Sunday, May 12, 2013.”

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq and provides direct, practical support to those injured in the current conflicts.
