Little damage to library after its basement flooded

Flooding in Montrose Library's basement has caused no damage

There is no damage to Montrose Library after flooding in its basement caused Angus Council to close the building for five days.

Staff at the library on the High Street noticed water in the building’s basement on Friday, December 27, and called out a plumber to assess the situation, who decided that the flooding was so extensive that a contractor was required.

A contractor arrived at the library last Tuesday (December 31) to determine the cause of the flooding.

An Angus Council spokesperson said: “The flooding was as a result of the heavy rainfall at the end of December.

“While there was no damage to the building or books, we do have some shelving in the basement, however, as these are metal we believe that these will dry out without any damage.”

The library was shut last Monday (December 30) to Friday (January 3) due to the flooding affecting the heating.

As there was no heating in the building, library staff were redeployed to other libraries in Angus during those days.
