Local hairdresser on Cloud 9

A MONTROSE hairdresser has proved she is a cut above the rest after making it to the national finals of a hairdressing competition for the second year in a row.

Bekki Smith-Dutton, owner of Cloud 9 in Arbroath will be once again travelling to London for the Redken NYC Hair Awards in September after winning the ‘runway to reality’ category which focuses on cutting.

Their model Hannah Reynolds, sported a look inspired by the fashion designer Nicole Fahri, which as well as hair included make-up and clothes.

She then had to walk the catwalk to show off the style and judges deemed her look to be the best of the day handing the West Port salon the victory.

Cloud 9 also had an entry in the ‘colour genius’ category with Siobhan Brogan showing a Betsey Johnson inspired look, which claimed the runner-up prize.

But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to go through.

However, Bekki was still delighted with the outcome of the competition.

She said: “It was such a high standard and we were up against some top salons.

“But we were delighted to win the ‘runway to reality’ category and it makes us an award winning salon again.

“Before the catwalk show, they sent models down the runway with styles from hairdressers such as Lee Stafford and Andrew Barton, which were very similar to our entry.

“So we thought then we might be in with a chance.”

The girls from Cloud 9 now go through to the next round of the competition in London, where the winner receives a trip to a hair symposium in Berlin as well as the chance to style a celebrity photo shoot.

And Bekki added: “We just hope to do well and we would love to win the prizes as it will be a massive thing for us.”
