Montrose Horticultural Society has branched out and has launched a new website ahead of this year’s flower show.

The society has also set up a Facebook page to build its online presence.

Kay Lees, secretary, said: “We are very excited about the website, which has been designed by John Dempsey. It already contains interesting information about the society, past and present.

“Very soon it will also have details of the Montrose Flower Show 2014 schedule.”

She added: “The society is keen for people to access the website and to give their views about the content and the “contact us” facility will allow users to feedback their thoughts about the site and to give suggestions and ideas relating to the Montrose Flower Show, as well as contributing to the site itself.”

The printed version of the schedule for this year’s flower show will shortly be available from Montrose Library, Crafty Cat and The Wool Shop.

Mrs Lees said: “Regular exhibitors will find a few changes to this year’s schedule.

“Montrose Horticultural Society is really keen to encourage new exhibitors. There is a section for beginners and one for the kitchen garden where the ordinary gardener can display the fruits of their labours.

“All entries are anonymous unless they win a first, second or third prize, in which case the prize card displays the name of the winner.

“Come on and give it a go. You have nothing to lose.”

The children’s section this year contains classes for all pre-school and primary age children.

Mrs Lees is particularly keen to see more participation from the local schools.

She said: “There is one class for a Glasgow Commonwealth Games poster. I’m sure all the schools will be including the games in their curriculum.

She added: “The society is more than willing to collect any material before the end of the summer term and store it until the flower show.”

If you would like the Montrose Horticultural Society to collect material from you, please get in touch with Kay Lees on k.lees173@btinternet.com or Elizabeth Robb at elizabethrobb@ymail.com.

The 2014 Montrose Flower Show takes place at the Links Hotel, on the Mid Links, on Friday, August 8, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mrs Lees concluded: “Come along and support your local flower show.”
