Harold Jack was appointed as a lay reader at St Mary’s and St Peter’s Church in Montrose at a service held before Easter.

Harold had to complete a three-year course to become a lay reader. He was already an alter server and eucharistical assistant at the church.

He said: “There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to become a reader but it didn’t hit me until the service.” The role will allow him to conduct some services at the church, including funerals, preaching and evensong.
