Officers honoured for bravery

TWO MONTROSE Police Officers were honoured at a ceremony in Perth tonight (Tuesday).

Police Constable Alistair Thomson received a Royal Humane Society Testimonial on Parchment; and Police Constable Gordon Peebles was awarded a Royal Humane Society Certificate of Commendation.

The awards related to an incident in the town in the early hours of Saturday, May 21, 2011, when the officers, on foot patrol, were told a man was trying to commit suicide by setting fire to his bathroom and barricading himself in.

At great personal risk, the officers saved the man’s life.

* More details of the officers’ bravery will be in the full story in next week’s Montrose Review.
