Montrose Bridge Club held its annual general meeting, prize-giving and end-of-season dinner in its new Tuesday evening location, the Congregational Church hall.
The principal prize-winners were: Central District Winner and Redcastle Rosebowl: Margaret Bell and David Leslie; Runner-up, Sarah and John Williams. Aggregate Winner and President’s Cup: Margaret Bell and David Leslie; runners-up, Mark Evans and Jake Milne. Match Point winner and Silver Salver: Ray Gallacher and Bill Ross; runners-up, Margaret Bell and David Leslie.
Handicap Winner and New Cup, Janet Kirk and Isabel Russell; runners-up, Mark Evans and Jake Milne/Brenda and Alan Massie. Individual winner and Unicorn Cup, Steve Findlay; runner-up, Hazel Shepherd.
Most Improved Player and Janet Sutherland Brown Rosebowl: Damien Murray; runner-up, Mary Faulkner. Highest Percentage Score and Claret Jug, Mark Evans and Jake Milne; Runners-Up, Bill Ross and Ray Gallacher.
Two members of the club, Betty Anderson and Sarah Williams, were elected as honorary members.
Betty is one of the longest-serving members of the club, a past president and, for many decades, a respected teacher of bridge. Members also recognised her outstanding organisational role in Montrose Bridge Club and other clubs in the area.
Sarah has served for many years as club secretary and treasurer. Over that period, she has provided, and continues to do so, superb administration of the club affairs and has also played a leading role in introducing bridge to senior pupils at the Academy, which has seen the club’s junior membership surge.
Montrose Bridge Club now moves on to its summer season, which started yesterday (April 22).
Relaxed bridge sessions are be held every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. throughout the summer in the Congregational Church Hall, on Baltic Street.
