Rent arrears figure marginally better

ANGUS Council’s neighbourhood services committee considered at its latest meeting a report on rent arrears.

Director Ron Ashton reported a small but steady reduction in the amount of arrears, which stand at 7.09 per cent, having started the year at 7.7 per cent.

Mr Ashton said that efforts are ongoing to pursue outstanding money. In the past year 41,000 actions were taken including more than 11,500 visits to tenants or ex-tenants. From over 260 court actions 83 have resulted in a decree being granted.

Eleven tenancies have been abandoned with arrears of £5,596.72.

He concluded: “It has been necessary to evict three tenants since the last report to Committee with arrears totalling £6,015.55.
