Seeking assurance on deliveries
NORTH east Conservative MSP Nanette Milne has asked for reassurance that rural consumers will not be faced with “unacceptable” parcel delivery arrangements in the run-up to Christmas.
Ms Milne wrote to Norman Lamb, Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs, following a report commissioned by Consumer Focus Scotland which revealed that one in three people experienced difficulties receiving deliveries as a result of collections offices’ inconvenient opening hours and long journeys required to get to them
The report also highlighted the impact on rural households of surcharges for delivery and some companies refusing to deliver to remote locations at all.
She said:“The growth of online shopping has also seen a huge increase in the level of parcel delivery.
I have written to Norman Lamb to highlight the findings of the report and to ask for an update on what action has been taken by the UK Government to address the situation to make sure that north east consumers do not face a similar situation come Christmas 2012.”
