Talk on First Marquis

MALCOLM McVittie, chairman of the 1st Marquis of Montrose Society, gave the first of three lectures on the Marquis this afternoon (Wednesday, July 25). It was entitled ‘Montrose – A Candidate for Immortality’.

It was the first in a series of lectures and events to complement Montrose Museum’s exhibition ‘To Win or Lose It All’ celebrating 400 years since the birth of James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose.

In his talk, Mr McVittie gave a biographical account of James Graham’s life and death.

The two further lectures in the series will be on August 22 - ‘Montrose and his Conscience’; and September 19 - ‘Montrose’s Annus Mirabilis’, also starting at 2pm.

Admission is free but booking is essential at Montrose Museum & Art Gallery, Panmure Place. The museum is open, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
