Town well represented in Ambassador list

the FINALISTS for the Angus Ambassador awards have been announced, with Montrose well represented.
Provost Helen Oswald, chairman of the judging panel, commented: “The entries are of an incredibly high standard.”
She continued: “From highly-talented youngsters to groups of volunteers working together to organise events in their communities, to companies building on their success in difficult economic times, there was no shortage of examples of just how much the people, businesses and organisations of Angus are helping to increase the gloss on our county’s shining reputation.”
Montrose has two nominations in the Creative Angus award: the Montrose Music Festival and Montrose Golf Links 450.
Montrose Music Festival has been nominated for its resounding achievement of attracting 80 acts, to play 120 gigs at the festival, including Eddi Reader’s sell-out headline gig.
Montrose 450 has been nominated for promoting golf and Montrose, whilst enhancing the interest in the game with many Junior based initiatives.
The Creative Angus award highlights those who foster a great understanding of the distinct history, heritage and contemporary culture of the county.
Fergus Storrier of Showcase the Street, John Street, Montrose, has been nominated in the Pride of Angus section.
This award celebrates the people businesses or organisations inspiring achievement, confidence and pride in the local communities.
Finally, the Montrose Air Station Heritage has been nominated in the Welcome Angus Award - which celebrates excellence in tourism.
Montrose Air Station Heritage has received this nomination for continual improvement. It now has a room dedicated to the 1940s, an Education Centre and a ‘pilot-training’ project for children.
To conclude, the Provost said: “Selecting the finalists was challenging but we all agreed that those who were eventually selected definitely deserved to be considered for a highly prestigious Angus Ambassador Award.”
The Provost added: ”Choosing the Angus Ambassador Awards from such an impressive shortlist will be a formidable task!”
