Volunteer to help those losing sight

The ROYAL National Institute of Blind People Scotland has set up a new vision support service in Tayside and is looking for volunteers.

The service helps newly-diagnosed clients come to terms with losing their sight.

Volunteer Co-ordinator Jennifer Lynch said: “We need people who can spare just a few hours a week to act as sighted guides for clients with sight loss attending our services and social activities, drivers to transport them to and from their homes, and help in offering information on what support and products we can provide to help people retain their independence.

“Full induction training will be given on understanding sight loss and how to guide blind and partially sighted people. We reimburse agreed expenses.

“It’s very rewarding and interesting work, often great fun, and a chance to make a very real difference to people’s lives in your own community.”

Anyone interested in finding out more can contact Jennifer on 07766 581 981 or e-mail Jennifer.lynch@rnib.org.uk
