Talented young singer Blair Ruxton (14) walked away with three trophies from the Arbroath Music Festival.

The Montrose Academy pupil won the Arbroath Fishermen’s Association Cup for a Scottish song class for 12 and under 15s when he was up against 7 other youngsters, The Abbey Folk Club for a unaccompanied folk song and The Nan McLeod Memorial Trophy for vocal solo boys 11 and under 15s (brokenvoice).

Blair has been singing for eight years and is being taught by Isobel Luke.

He said: “Singing is my hobby, some people play football, I like to sing.

“The best part about competing in the Arbroath Music Festival was meeting other young people who are interested in the same things as me.”

Blair has been accepted into the National Youth Choir of Scotland and hopes to compete in the Aberdeen Music Festival later in the year.
