THE BODY of a 49-year-old man was recovered from the South Esk on Tuesday after he was seen to fall from the bridge over the estuary.
The man, named by police as Wilson Gray, was spotted on the bridge by a member of the public at around 2.45pm.
Both the police and local lifeboat station were contacted and the inshore lifeboat was launched and on the scene within four minutes.
Mr Gray, who was from the Montrose area, was pulled from the water and CPR was administered by lifeboat crew members. An ambulance also arrived at the scene and treatment was given by paramedics but, despite their best efforts resuscitate him, Mr Gray was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesman said that his family has been informed.
He said: “As with all such incidents, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
