A man made a private appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with the alleged stabbing incident in Montrose.

Paul William Halliday (41) appeared from custody and was charged with assault to severe injury and attempted murder.

He was arrested following an incident on Strathmore Place on Sunday in which a 26-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a neck injury.

The Review understands the incident took place in a town centre property and the Angus Area Commander for the police told us it was an “isolated” incident.

Halliday was remanded in custody and is expected to make another appearance at court next week.
