The ‘Gable Enders’ recently completed the Forfar Marafun and raised money for the British Heart Foundation.

The team consisted of five women – four with Montrose connections and one from Forfar.

The group of women who made up Gable Enders was Michelle Riddock, Katrina Court, Rhiannon Gruenwald, Colleen Gruenwald (Rhiannon’s mother) and Judith White, Forfar.

Colleen told the Review: “On the Sunday, May 25, I took part in a relay run called a Marafun.

“This event consists of teams and each team has five members dividing the run from a full marathon into a fifth of the distance per person.

“My team was called the ‘Gable Enders” as I am from Montrose in Scotland, and this is a nickname given to my home town due to the high street having houses with the gable ends facing the street.”

Colleen continued: “We did the run to support the British Heart Foundation and each of us had eight laps of Forfar High Street to do, but our combined time needed to be under four hours.

“I am happy to report that we completed the run in 3 hours 30 minutes. The whole team is expected to run across the finish line together, and sadly Michelle was on call and had to leave.

“Luckily my sister-in-law Sally Jessiman was willing to take over for Michelle, since she would only have to run a couple of hundred yards to ensure Michelle would receive her medal.

“Sally had no idea that she would end up getting a podium picture taken with the curling silver medalist, Greg Drummond who is from the town of Forfar!”

So far, Colleen has raised over £1,200 for The British Heart Foundations by hosting a formal dinner dance where most of the money was raised and some from the Marafun.

Colleen added: “I am planning to run a few more races this year, which will consist of 10Ks and half-marathons. My next event that I have committed to is the Cardiff Half Marathon in October. I figured it was a great excuse to go to the Welsh capital, since I have yet to visit Cardiff and I will get to see some of the sites on my run. I hope to raise over £2,000 in total by December for the British Heart Foundation, to do this I have a JustGiving webpage and a text donation number for UK cell phones.”

To sponsor Colleen, visit or text ‘BHFC71’ £2 / £5 / £10 to 70070 to donate.

Over the years, Colleen has raised money for SANE for mental health, Brain Tumour UK, Bowel Cancer, Meningitis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Carronhill special needs school to name just a few, whilst raising more than £15,000 for these good causes.
