What will I have for my supper tonight? What will I give the children for their packed lunch? Decisions many of us make daily, safe in the knowledge that good food is in plentiful supply.
Do we ever stop to think about those people worldwide, many of them children, who don’t have a regular meal and are permanently starving?
Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. Mary’s Meals is a simple idea that works – by providing a daily meal in a place of education, chronically poor children are attracted to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that provides an escape route from poverty.
Over 920,000 children receive Mary’s Meals every school day. To feed a child for a whole school year costs £12.50.
A fund-raising Mary’s Meals Charity Coffee Morning will be held at Old & St Andrew’s Church Halls on Saturday (September 13), from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be the usual stalls, and all proceeds will be given directly to Mary’s Meals.
