Milestone for council’s funding news

ANGUS Council’s external funding team is this week celebrating the issue of the 100th edition of its free monthly e-newsletter, Angus Funding News.

The publication, which started in September 2004, gives up-to-date information about new sources of external funding, changes to existing funds, and advises readers of forthcoming deadlines for applications.

The bulletin is distributed directly to over 700 e-mail addresses, but as many of those on the list forward it to others, its reach is much wider, including readers from other areas of Scotland and as far south as Essex. The team has even had a request from Benin in West Africa to be added to the distribution list, although the information in the bulletin is aimed primarily at Angus-based community groups and charities seeking funding.

The team estimates that Angus Funding News has covered more than 1,500 funds and, most importantly, has helped local groups to access valuable funding.

The bulletin has been complimented over the years, being described as the best funding newsletter in Scotland, and it received a recommendation in the Scottish Directory of Funding for Third Sector Organisations 2011.

Councillor Mairi Evans, economic development spokeswoman, said: “I congratulate the team on their efforts to produce this useful newsletter every month. In these days of economic constraint, it is more important than ever that community groups and charities have current information about all sources of funding.”

The bulletin is available online at where it received 3,400 views in 2011. Anyone wishing to be added to the distribution list should contact or phone Eddie Findlay on 01307 473264.
