A Montrose businesswoman will be swimming across Loch Lomond to raise funds for the project which hopes to bring a cinema to the town.

Lynn McComiskie, owner of the Next To You lingerie shop on Murray Street, is taking part in the Great Scottish Swim across Loch Lomond on August 23.

Lynn will be swimming a mile across the loch in aid of the Montrose Playhouse Project.

She said: “I thought if I’m going to this swim why not do it before something that will benefit the town and surrounding area.

“Some people can’t afford to make the journey to Aberdeen or Dundee to get to the cinema. The old swimming pool is sitting there growing weeds. Let’s turn it into something for the community.”

She added: “Since I said I would raise money for the Playhouse Project other people are saying they are going to fund-raise for it as well, which just means more money for the project.

“A cinema in Montrose can’t come quick enough.”

Lynn has been training for the charity swim at Loch Muick in Aboyne.

David Paton, founder of Montrose Playhouse Project, said: “On behalf of the Playhouse Project team we are so grateful to Lynn for doing this amazing event to raise money for our project. I don’t think I could swim half a mile over Loch Lomond never mind the mile she has to swim.

“Lynn is so enthusiastic about the project and realises how beneficial it would be to the town and surrounding area and that shone through when we were at the old pool getting the photos taken when I was explaining where everything would go.

“I could see her face light up with excitement, which was so good to see.”
