Montrose FC have confirmed that Derek Sim has decided to call it a day as Chairman and Director of the Gable Endies after six and a half years at the helm of the League 2 outfit.

Honorary President John Paton said: “We are obviously disappointed at Derek’s decision but fully respect his wishes. I would like to thank Derek, both personally and on behalf of the Club, for everything he has done in his time in charge.”

Taking the hot seat in 2010, Derek arrived as the Club was experiencing significant challenges and he very quickly brought financial stability to the fore before embarking on a journey that would shape both the Club’s medium and long term future.

Through 2014-15 Derek orchestrated fundraising activities and secured grants to allow the replacement of the worn out artificial grass at Links Park with a state-of-the-art 4G surface and earlier this year Derek was instrumental in the negotiations to buy back the Stadium from Bon Accord Estates.

Derek also demonstrated strong leadership during Season 2014-15 as the team survived the inaugural Pyramid Play-Off Final and over the last few years he has provided great support to the youth teams through the development of Club Academy Scotland.

Vice President John Crawford added: “Derek has done a fantastic job for Montrose FC and he will be sadly missed around the place. He will always be welcome here and we look forward to seeing him back very soon.”

On departing, Derek said,:“I would like to thank the Board, staff, players and fans for all their support over the last few years and I wish them all the very best for the future.

“I have very much enjoyed my time as Chairman but the time is right for me to move on. I want to spend more time with my family and travelling overseas with my wife Kathleen, but I do plan to stay involved with the Links Park Community Trust so I will be popping back to Montrose from time to time.”

The Club expect to announce Derek’s replacement following their next Board meeting in early August.
