The Montrose all-weather lifeboat RNLB Ian Grant Smith was called out yesterday to assist a yacht.

The volunteer crew was paged at 1.40pm on Sunday (December 11) with the lifeboat being quickly launched at 1.50pm to assist the yacht Laurel with an estimated position of 50 miles east of Montrose.

The yacht had been on passage from Holland to Inverness with a crew of two on board and suffered an electrical fault and damage to her rigging.

Motor Vessel Godafoss made her way to the yacht and stood by until the Montrose lifeboat arrived at the scene at 3.30pm, 43 miles east of Montrose.

A towline was attached from the lifeboat to the yacht at 3.40pm and a course set for Montrose, arriving back at the harbour at 9.50pm where the yacht was secured.

The RNLB Ian Grant Smith returned to the lifeboat station and was made ready for service at 10.40pm.
