A Montrose man has died in hospital after being involved in a car crash on Wednesday.

Police Scotland has confirmed that a man who was injured following an accident on Woggle Road between Westhill and Blackburn at around 3.35pm on Wednesday (20 January) has died in hospital.

He has been named as 62-year-old Gerard Kelly from the Montrose area.

His family are aware.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash but several drivers stopped to help Mr Kelly before the emergency services arrived.

The police are urging witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Jon Barron of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “At this very sad time, my thoughts are very much with Mr Kelly’s family, friends and colleagues.

“A number of motorists stopped at the scene to render assistance and administer first aid.

“I would like to thank them for doing their utmost to help.”

Witnesses to the incident who haven’t yet been spoken to by police are urged to get in touch on 101.
