A Montrose martial arts instructor has been featured on celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s new TV show.
Local martial arts instructor Master at Arms Mark Davies has been regularly featured on TV and Radio in the UK over the years, but now he has had worldwide exposure after having a major part with Bourdain on his new show ‘Parts Unknown’.
Mark was contacted by Bourdain who was looking for an expert in unarmed combat and in knife defence in particular, an area that Mark is a world renowned specialist in.
Mark said: “I was absolutely blown away when Anthony Bourdain contacted me to ask if I would help with his show, as I was already a big fan of his having read his books and watched his other TV shows.
He was such a nice guy to work with and we had a lot of fun filming.
“I kept having to pinch myself to make sure it was actually happening.”
He met up with the chef and his film crew in Glasgow, where they spent the day filming.
Mark and Bourdain spoke about Mark’s experiences of knife attacks and Mark taught the chef some basic knife defence skills from his Tactical Edge system.
They then spent several hours filming a movie style fight scene outside the Ibrox Stadium, home of The Rangers, with some of Mark’s students, as well as some training footage of Mark at the Gracie Barra gym in Glasgow.
The show ‘Parts Unknown’ has already been shown across the USA on CNN, and will be released across the rest of the world as the year goes on.
Mark teaches a variety of classes for different ages at Montrose Sports Centre.
