The Montrose inshore lifeboat RNLB Nigel A Kennedy was requested at 1.24 am on Saturday to assist Police Scotland.

The lifeboat with its volunteer crew was quickly on the scene below the Montrose-Rossie Island road bridge to give assistance to police officers.

A spokesperson for Montrose Lifeboat Station said: “A male was on the bridge and was in danger of falling into the cold water below.

“After some time of talking to the male, eventually the Police managed to get him off the bridge and out of danger at 4.45am.

“The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to Montrose Lifeboat Station to be made ready for service.”
