Montrose Sports Centre will be closed for a day for repair works to take place following two incidents of raw sewage leaking from the facility’s ceiling.
The Angus Council run centre will be closed on Friday, March 13, and the local authority has confirmed it was a joint failure which caused the leakages.
Contaminated water burst through the building’s ceiling on Saturday, February 21 while a Midlands District swimming gala was taking place, causing a “disgusting” smell and the event to be cancelled.
Two weeks previously, on Saturday, February 7, sewage was seeping through the facility’s ceiling into the reception area, coincidently at the end of a another major swimming gala.
A council spokesperson said: “The work to replace the pipes and joints will require the centre to be closed for the day.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
