The YM in Montrose is open for business again with refurbishments being completed ahead
Front door access to the building on Murray Street had been out of bounds for two weeks with groups who normally use the hall, as well as the community area, being closed.
The concrete floor in the entrance has been removed and a complete new wooden floor installed, ahead of the three weeks estimated.
Val Cooper, YM manager, said: “We initially allowed three weeks for the job, however the work has gone like clockwork with all the tradesman playing their part to ensure that the groups who normally use the hall could resume after only a two-week closure.”
The work has been done by Dontay Contracts Ltd., of Montrose
Val continued: “All the tradesman have worked really hard. They communicated well between themselves and any chances to the planned work were communicated to YM management at the first opportunity, meaning there have been no holds up at all.
“All our hall user groups have been very cooperative and thanks to H & R Construction the disruption has only involved the groups who used the downstairs of the building.
“All youth activities have run as normal because H & R Construction fitted Britton door opens to the fire doors and built a temporary structure sealing off the main staircase, allowing the first and second floor of the building to run as normal.
“The good news is, after our disruption we are ready to welcome all our regular and any new customers to our weekly Thursday Community Cafe.”
The YM has operated in the town for more than a 100 years and provides services specifically for young people and a number of other community based groups.
