A Montrose model is hoping to better his record in the Mr British Empire competition next month - aiming for a top three spot.

Calvin Davidson has been selected as a finalist for the competition, having made it in to the final of the prestigious event last year.

He will travel to Watford on September 3.

He said: “Last year I won the Scottish heats crowning me Mr Scotland and placing overall fifth out of 18 men down at the grand final in London.”

He cited the event as having started his modelling career - which has gone from strength to strength.

He said: “The competition last year was a great platform - it kick-started a career in modelling in which I have been signed to a couple of agencies and had some awesome work, including working on Trainspotting 2 recently with Danny Boyle and the rest of the cast.”

At this year’s event, Calvin will be flying the flag for his home town. He said: “This year I am representing Montrose as Mr Montrose and who knows what other doors it may open.”

It’s not the first modelling competition this year for Calvin, who took part in the Top Model UK competition back in April.

For that competition, models were able to raise money for charity, and public votes for the event also helped to raise money for a good cause.

Calvin explained: “As part of that competition I managed to raise £2000 in total for Children with Cancer UK, which was awesome!”

For his bid for Mr British Empire, Calvin has secured a sponsor - True Warrior Fitness Montrose. He is also hoping his experience at last year’s event will stand him in good stead.

He said: “This year, I know what is expected of me. I have been under a strict training regime and diet by my coach and sponsor Dale Middleton at True Warrior Fitness Montrose.

“I was 15 stone last year, now I’m only 13.5 all thanks to my sponsor True Warrior Fitness Montrose.

“Everybody who goes there are supporting me and pushing me to achieve my goals.

“I don’t think I’d be where I am now without the support of my team and the people of Montrose. It has been truly awesome and for that I’m thankful.

“I managed to get in the top five last year in the grand finals. I’m aiming for top three this year.”

The grand final of Mr British Empire takes place at the Mercure Hotel, Watford on Saturday, September 3.

The event also includes Miss British Empire (ages 18-30), Mrs British Empire (ages 30-45) and Ms British Empire (45+) competitions.
