Much to look forward to in Spring

DUNDEE Rep Theatre has announced its exciting spring 2013 season including three collaborations, a site specific performance and a world premiere.

Dundee Rep Ensemble opens the season with Time and the Conways by J.B. Priestley, their second co-production with the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh. This is followed by a site specific production of the rarely performed KORA by one of Scotland’s greatest writers, Tom McGrath. The season ends with the world premiere of the highly anticipated stage adaptation of the Swedish novel and cult film Let The Right One In presented by the National Theatre of Scotland, Marla Rubin Productions Ltd. and Claudio Carrera Productions and in association with Dundee Rep Theatre.

Dundee Rep Theatre’s Artistic Director (designate) Jemima Levick teams up once more with award winning designer Ti Green to direct Dundee Rep Ensemble in J.B. Priestley’s time shifting masterpiece Time and the Conways (March 13 to 30). Follow the Conway family whose bright and prosperous future turns sour. Watch as their fate slowly unfolds in this stunning study of time and familial relations.

KORA by Tom McGrath (May) about one woman and her communities fight for justice is set in Dundee and will be performed at a site specific location in the city. Full details to be announced soon.

National Theatre of Scotland, Marla Rubin Productions Ltd and Claudio Carrera Productions in association with Dundee Rep Theatre present the world premiere of Let The Right One In by Jack Thorne based on the Swedish novel and screenplay of the film by John Ajvide Lindquist (June 5 to 29). Tony and Olivier award-winning director, John Tiffany heads up a world-class creative team to bring the cult Swedish film to the stage.

Under the charge of new artistic director Fleur Darkin, Scottish Dance Theatre presents two exhilarating new works. Second Coming by Montreal based Victor Quijada and Winter, Again, by Norwegian choreographer Jo Strømgren (February 20 to 23). Visiting dance includes the third annual performance of Breakin’ Rules (January 26) bringing dance crews from across the UK for one night only and National Dance Company Wales present a spellbinding triple bill of exhilarating dance to fall in love with (May 3).

Visiting drama includes Mike Gibb’s Scottish musical play Five Pound & Twa Bairns and Infinite Scotland - an entertaining and thought provoking journey through Scotland’s fascinating natural diversity and brilliant artistic life. Smash hit show An Evening Of Dirty Dancing performed by West End stars will take you back to the summer of 1963. Murder, Marple and Me performed by Janet Prince looks at Margaret Rutherford’s iconic performance as Miss Marple that nearly didn’t happen. Goldfish Theatre Company presents And All Because the Ladies Love a Right Guid Gab and Kanjoos – The Miser is a comedy adapted by Hardeep Singh Kohli and Jatinder Verma about a man obsessed with hoarding his wealth according to Gandhian principles of relentless self-sacrifice. My Name is Rachel Corrie is a one-woman play composed from journals, letters and emails of the late Rachel Corrie who was tragically killed as she tried to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes. Winner of a Scotsman Fringe First (2008) Slick combines absurd comedy, visual storytelling, puppetry and physical performance to create a unique ensemble performance with comic-strip visuals. New comedy in April from How to Make a Killing in Bollywood and Communicado Theatre Company brings us their inventive and hilarious retelling of The Government Inspector.

Music at Dundee Rep this season is an eclectic mix kicking off with Jive Talking as The Bee Gees Live in Concert, the fabulous Ken Campbell and Linsey Aitken, with guest Maggie MacInnes perform the best of contemporary Scots and Gaelic songs. Alan Kelly Gang featuring some of Ireland’s finest musicians and Dundee’s own Peter French will perform his highly acclaimed sell-out London concert About Love and The Rat Pack is Back.
