MUMS group meeting

THE MATERNITY Users Montrose (MUMS) group met on Friday to discuss various matters of importance to pregnant women and mothers in Montrose.

Among the items discussed was the planned move of routine pregnancy scans from Montrose to Arbroath as part of NHS Tayside’s introduction of the routine Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan being undertaken at the same time as their first scan at 12 to 15 weeks.

The NT scan is a non-invasive screening test which assesses whether your baby is likely to have Down’s Syndrome. The existing scanning machine in Montrose is not capable to undertaking this level of detailed scan, while both the Arbroath and Forfar units have suitable scanners.

They also discussed the planned assistance with furnishing the new relaxation room at the Maternity Unit as well as the forthcoming MUMs Montrose Baby Show 2011.

Last year the baby show was the first of its kind in the area and they hope to repeat its successes with a broad range of exhibitors at the Park Hotel on Sunday, May 22. Any volunteers for the organising sub-group are welcome.

The MUMs Group has been established for almost 18 months and has successfully helped to raise over £1,200 so far to establish pregnancy yoga and a multiple births group at the Montrose Maternity Unit.

They hope to continue in 2011 with new successes such as these and would welcome any contributions from other interested individuals and groups.
