The mystery item which appeared in last week’s Review could be one of three things according to our readers.
Three people contacted us to let us know what their thoughts were on the item that Mr and Mrs Mann found when they were clearing their garden out in Montrose recently, which featured on page 29 of last week’s edition.
One person told us it was one half of a firedog, also known as a dog or dog-iron, intended to hold logs above the hearth in order to improve air circulation for better burning.
Another said it was a possibly a stand for fire irons, such as a poker.
The third reader said it was a shoe or sole scraper.
