THE second guest of the new season at Montrose Folk Club in the Links Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose on Tuesday, August 23 will be Nathan Rogers from Canada.
Nathan is the son of the late great Canadian folk legend, Stan Rogers.
In 2005 he released his debut album entitled True Stories. This met critical acclaim both at home and abroad.
His second Album, “The Gauntlet”, was released last year on Borealis Records.
Although it must be difficult to follow in his father’s footsteps, when his father is a legendary Canadian singer and songwriter, nevertheless, Nathan Rogers is well on his way to achieving recognition in his own right.
He has inherited much of Stan’s talent, with the same powerful voice and a marvellous way with words.
However, he is very much his own man as is illustrated by The Gauntlet.
Most of the songs on The Gauntlet are his own but there is one from his father, also a traditional ballad and, for fans of the genre, a bit of Mongolian throat singing!
The performance style of Nathan Rogers leaves the audience wondering where the rest of the band is hiding. Singing, chanting, playing the guitar and stomping, he fills any stage with “magnificent, powerfully clear lyrics and arrangements”.
Described as “intelligent and witty”, Nathan “will move men and women to tears with his sound and conviction”.
Nathan has recently become an adept throat singer, specialising in Tuvan and Mongolian styles.
A cultural tour-de force in his own right, Nathan now brings a uniquely eastern flavour to a western tradition.
Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club next Tuesday for what will be a first appearance in Scotland by a unique Canadian talent.
The doors at the Links Hotel will be open at 7.30 pm with Nathan on stage at 8pm.
