THIS September, to celebrate the opening of their new gallery space, The Brechin Town House Museum presents its first contemporary exhibition.
It will feature the work of Hetty Haxworth and Rachel Owen and will run from Saturday, September 3 to Saturday, October 1.
Hetty Haxworth, born in Oxford in 1971, graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 1993.
Her abstract prints are based on organic forms, which are inspired by patterns found in nature, particularly from the coastal landscape.
Her work investigates the delicate juxtaposition of colour, form and line. Haxworth has shown several times at The Royal Academy Summer show, London and her work is held in numerous private collections including The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Exhibitions include The Ice House, London, Glasgow Print Studio and Peacock Visual Arts Aberdeen and selected touring shows to Ohio, Australia, LA, Denmark and Brussels. She currently lives in Aberdeenshire.
Rachel Owen was born in Cardiff in 1968.
She completed a degree in Fine Art and Italian (specialising in printmaking) at the University of Exeter, and studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence.
In 2001 she received a PhD from the University of London upon completion of research into the illuminated manuscripts of Dante’s Divina Commedia.
Her recent work comprises photographic screenprints exploring the idea of transformation, both natural and supernatural.
Owen has participated in numerous exhibitions in the UK and internationally and currently lives in Oxford, where she teaches at Oxford University.
Hetty Haxworth will be running free drop in screenprinting workshops for children (accompanied by their parents) in the Town House Museum.
They will be held on Saturday, September 17 from 2 pm to 4 pm and on Saturday, September 24 from 2 pm to 4 pm (all welcome).
The exhibition in The Brechin Town House, Brechin Town House Museum, 28 High Street, Brechin, will run from Monday to Saturday 10 am- 5 pm – admission free.
