Scottish celebrity chef and food campaigner Nick Nairn will showcase some of the best of local produce in August at the biggest Taste Angus Food and Drink Festival to date.

Nick will be joined by Jamie Scott, well-known Angus food expert and 2014 winner of BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals, and Jacqueline O’donnell, twice a Great British Menu finalist and presenter of STV’s ‘Jak and Eddie’s Scottish Kitchen’.

All three will delight visitors to the Food Demonstration Theatre at Glamis Castle by cooking with local grouse and game sourced from the Angus glens.

He will also be on the stand of event sponsor, the Angus Glens Moorland Group, where the journey of ‘from hill to plate’ will be explored, with the help of the group’s gamekeepers.

A keen shot himself, Nick and the gamekeepers will explain how responsible moorland stewardship helps produce a sustainable harvest of seasonal game each year from the region.

Lianne MacLennan, Angus Glens Moorland Group co-ordinator, said: “As a group which works with our local communities in Angus, it will be a great opportunity to explain how the beautiful game meat from the area is reared for the larder and how, as well as providing food for the table, it also brings tourists from all over the world and a vital economic spin-off for the glen communities.

“What better than to have Nick with us to help explain how meat such as grouse, rabbit and venison finally arrive at the kitchen table from the hills of Angus?”

Former Young Scottish chef of the Year Adam Newth, BBC Masterchef: The Professionals runner-up, Brian Mcleish, Praveen Kumar and the team from Sinclair’s Catering Ltd will all cook with the best of local ingredients.

As well as a host of children’s activities over the two days such as story-telling and games, there will also be field sports such as clay pigeon shooting, falconry, live music and entertainment.

Early Bird tickets for the event on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21, are on sale now and available until July 31. Tickets can be booked at www.tasteangus.co.uk or by calling 03336 663366.
