LAST week Montrose manager Ray Farningham predicted there would be plenty of goals at Stair Park. He was right but not in the way it was hoped.

The Gable Endies were once again the victims of their own missed opportunities as they were defeated 3-1 against Stranraer.

Although Montrose were leading, Stranraer came back from behind to take the three points.

Montrose were dealt a further blow when Jonathan Smart was sent off for the fourth time this season.

This Saturday the Gable Endies are set for another long journey south when they face Annan Athletic.

The team is currently sitting second bottom in the league - five points ahead of East Stirlingshire.

The sides have met three times this season, twice at Links Park, resulting in a loss and a 1-1 draw; and once at Galabank, where the outcome was also a 1-1 draw.

The next home game for Montrose will be on Saturday, March 31, against Alloa Athletic.

There are still limited spaces available for full hospitality at £65 including vat. This includes pre-match drink, three course meal with wine, half-time refreshments and use of a bar facility until 5.30pm from which a cash bar will then available.

• The club continues its fund-raising efforts with fortnightly car boot sales in the car park to the left of the ground as you enter Links Park.

The first will be this Sunday, March 25, setting up from 8.30am for a 9am start. The sale will finish at noon.

The cost for cars is £10 and vans £15. No traders are allowed.

Refreshments will be on sale.

To book, contact A. Kenny on 01674 674982 or 07923 673775.

Bookings will be given priority.

The aim is to raise funds for the club’s Youth Development Programme.

Club chairman Derek Sim said: “Reduced income from key sources places immense strain on the club’s finances, and yet the importance of running youth teams is paramount to the future of the club even though rising costs such as diesel have a huge impact on travel to the extremities of Scotland.”
