The team behind bringing a cinema to Montrose will be turning the town hall into a glittering Oscars style ballroom in their first major fundraising event.
On Saturday, October 31 Montrose Town Hall will be transformed and a night of music, entertainment, games, an auction and raffle will take place to raise money for the project which aims to build a cinema and cultural arts centre on the site of the former swimming pool on The Mall.
The group has also been awarded funding to clear the old pool’s car park.
David Paton, vice-chairman, said: “Angus Council has awarded us funding from their Stalled Spaces Fund which will enable us to clear up the car park at the rear of the old pool. A lot of people didn’t even know this space existed and this will eventually become The Playhouse’s dedicated car park with access from North Street and exit onto The Mall.
“Clearing the space will allow us to utilise it for potential fundraising events such as car boot sales or even outdoor cinema events. It will also fund the thermometer which we plan to install on the front of the building to keep you all updated as to our progress.”
In October local band Peyton Place will play well-known songs from the movies and stand-up comedy will be provided by local comedian Scott Forbes (Mad Dog) plus a guest.
A buffet dinner by Marshall Wilkie will be complemented by a cash bar provided by The Golf Inn and a dedicated cocktail lounge provided by Elements Cocktail Company of Arbroath. MC for the night will be Ross Thomson.
Tickets are £30 per head, which includes a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and the buffet. They are on sale from Ticketline and Henry Hoggs Newsagent, Montrose High Street.
Table bookings of six, eight and 12 are available online only.
David added: “We are actively seeking donations and if you would like to donate a raffle prize or auction lot, or even to sponsor part of the event, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
