Forthill Community Sports Club has teamed up with Sporting Memories, which operates free community-based clubs across the UK. These clubs welcome older people who like to make friends and connections in their local area or have a passion for sport.

The club uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50+ to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances.

It provides an opportunity for people from all backgrounds to not only share their stories but to also partake in a weekly session that ignites old memories through photographs and quizzes as well as getting active again with a range of fun games and inclusive exercises.

Support in starting the Sporting Memories Club has been provided by Leisure & Culture Dundee.

Alison MacKenzie, community sport hub officer, said: “I’m delighted to be supporting Forthill Community Sports Club to deliver a Sporting Memories group. We believe that sport has the power to bring people together, to create positive memories, and deliver an increased sense of purpose and belonging. I would encourage older people to come along and enjoy our Sporting Memories group.”

Donna Mackey, partnership manager for Sporting Memories added: “It’s our first club in the area and we are looking forward to working with Forthill Community Sports Club to make the club a success.”

The club is currently looking for volunteers who would be able to spare some time to help run its activities and training and support is given.

Forthill Community Sports Club Sporting Memories meets every Friday between 11am and 12.30pm at Fintry Place, Broughty Ferry and anyone keen to join as a new member or volunteer should email Alison MacKenzie at [email protected] or call 07798 724917.
