In a competitive selection held in Arbirlot, Mr Cruickshanks, 24, was chosen by local members of the Angus Conservatives to represent them in the upcoming election.

Mr Cruickshanks has lived in Arbroath his entire life and is deeply committed to its future. He is currently in his final year studying financial economics at the University of Dundee. Alongside his studies, Jack works part-time at a local retailer. He's a big supporter of the Red Lichties and a dedicated community activist.

Upon his selection, he said: "I am honoured to be selected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for this by-election. As a lifelong resident of Arbroath, it saddens me to see the state of our high street and the divisive debates surrounding new developments.

" I am passionate about developing Arbroath for the next generation with affordable housing and new jobs, as well as improving roads and ensuring that our rural communities receive the support and resources they need to thrive."

"If elected, I pledge to be a tireless champion for Arbroath, Letham and Friockheim, focusing on the issues that matter most to residents.

" I will work to revitalise our high street, support local businesses and ensure that new developments benefit our entire community.

" I will also fight to ensure that our rural communities are not left behind, advocating for improved infrastructure, better public transport and increased access to essential services."
