CARNOUSTIE councillor Helen Oswald is the new Provost of Angus.

At today’s first meeting of the new Angus Council, she was appointed with her SNP colleague, Alex King, as Depute Provost.

Convenerships have been appointed as follows:

Civic licensing – Alex King; corporate services – Alex King; social work – Glennis Middleton; infrastructure services – Mairi Evans; education – Sheena Welsh; strategic policy – Iain Gaul; development standards – Rob Murray; neighbourhood services – Donald Morrison.

The tone of the meeting is one of calm, with the hand of friendship being offered to the independent councillors and those who were members of the previous ruling Alliance in an effort to end the bickering which somewhat blighted the last council.
