The first concert of Montrose Folk Club after the summer break will be one of the highlights of the current season and a coup for the club.
The guests will be Emily Smith and Jamie McClennan, who will perform in the Links Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose on Thursday, August 13 at 8pm.
Emily Smith is considered the leading Scottish female folk singer of the current era.
Normally, performing only on the concert hall and festival circuit, Emily Smith will be making a rare Folk Club appearance, accompanying herself on keyboards and with husband, Jamie McClennan, on fiddle, guitar and backing vocals.
Smith has been described by The Guardian as Scotland’s “most impressive young songwriter”.
Her most recent CD entitled ‘Echoes’ features the whole spectrum of her material from the ballads and traditional songs of Scotland to no less timeless songs from contemporary songwriters on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since being chosen as BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 2002, she has appeared on television on many occasions over recent years, including the Transatlantic Sessions Series on BBC Four, on Songs of Praise on BBC One, on Hogmanay Live for BBC Scotland, Santer for BBC Ulster and an exclusive performance for Sky Arts Channel.
Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club August 13. The duo will be on stage at 8pm with the doors at the Links Hotel open at 7.30pm.
Entry is £9.50, payable either on the door or by purchase of tickets beforehand from the Links Hotel on 01674 671000.
