Ready for cabaret

THREE local young farmers clubs will once again compete in the annual Angus Tayside Young Farmer Cabaret competition at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath on Saturday, January 19.

The teams will represent Forfar JAC, Strathmore JAC and Brechin YFC in their productions in an evening of entertainment, supported by other acts.

Showing off home grown talent, this will be a fun filled evening of music, dance and humour not to be missed.

Tickets are £8, £5 concessions (under 16s only) and are available from the box office on 01241 435800. The evening begins at 7 p.m.

The entertainment continues at the Arbroath venue on Friday, February 8 with Cannon, Campbell, Watchorn & O’Connor, formerly of The Dubliners, live in concert.

In 2012 the legendary Irish folk group The Dubliners celebrated 50 glorious years in the music business by receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Sadly, however, they suffered a body blow with the sudden death of founding member “Banjo” Barney McKenna. Quite naturally this tragic occurrence meant that the remaining members chose to sit down and decide the band’s future.

Sean Cannon, Eamonn Campbell, Patsy Watchorn and banjo virtuoso Gerry O’Connor have decided to continue the legacy and are looking forward to meeting old friends and fans n 2013.

Their concert begins at 7.30 p.m.
