Rehearsals have started for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s next concert which is on Saturday, June 28 in the Reid Hall, Forfar.
For this aptly named ‘Summer Concert’ the orchestra has chosen an appealing programme of very well known musical items.
Soloist in the cello concerto by Dvorak is Matthias Feile, a native of Germany, who as a professional musician was principal cellist with the Philharmonia Orchestra, London. Having changed careers, Matthias is now a doctor in Perthshire.
Bill McLeod, TSO chairman said: “Sadly I have to report Ron Walker, who started TSO and has been its conductor for 21 years, is currently not enjoying the best of health. Although he still hopes to take some part in the concert, this looks very unlikely. I need hardly say the orchestra owes a great debt of gratitude to Ron for all his Herculean efforts over the past two decades and wishes him well.
“Fortunately, within the past year we appointed Andrew McGarva to be our deputy conductor and I’m delighted to say he has taken over the baton at rehearsals in Ron’s absence and is ready to be conductor at the concert itself.”
Tickets will be on sale soon from the Toy Castle, Forfar, Hogg’s, Montrose, any TSO member or at the door on the evening of the concert, which begins at 7.30 p.m.
