Restaurant certainly has the ‘Quay’ to great food

As you travel over the bridge from Rossie Island, Montrose, the first restaurant you see on your right is The Quay, situated on Wharf Street.

The restaurant is situated in an idyllic location overlooking the port, with beautiful views over towards Ferryden.

On a Wednesday evening, my friend and I decided to give The Quay a try.

We happened to be attending on a new theme night - which the husband and wife owners,Mark and Kerry organised. The theme was Italian but there was a non-themed menu available so there was something for everyone. The staff at the restaurant were excellent and after a glass of sparkling water, we were shown to our table.

A selection of Foccacia bread, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and olives were placed on the table whilst we decided what to go for.

Both my friend and I settled for the ‘Italian Night’ menu with myself having ricotta and summer vegetable salad and a poached egg to start, priced at a very reasonable £4.50 and my friend opting for the roasted tomato, garlic and balsamic soup.

Both starters were immaculately presented and the flavours could not have been faulted.

We opted for a bottle of Ca di Ponti Carratto, Italian white wine, from the extensive wine menu, priced at £13.95 per bottle. Beautiful.

For the main course I had crab and chilli linguini and my friend had braised beef in red wine with creamed polenta.

The crab and chilli linguini was cooked to perfection and the braised beef was unbelievably delicious with just the right amount of vegetables on the side.

For dessert I had a selection of Italian cheese and biscuits whilst my friend enjoyed a lemon posset citrus fruit salad.

The selection of biscuits and cheese were great whilst the lemon posset was devoured in next to no time!

This is a restaurant I would certainly visit again and would recommend to friends and family.
