Rising stars of folk scene at Montrose

THE Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller Trio will be the guests at Montrose Folk Club in the Links Hotel, Montrose on Tuesday, April 10 at 8 pm.

Jeana and Siobhan are the new rising stars of the Scottish folk scene. For their concert at Montrose Folk Club, they will be accompanied on guitar by Aaron Jones of the Old Blind Dogs.

In 2008, Jeana and Siobhan were successful in the competition run by BBC Radio 2 to select the Young Traditional Musician of the Year. They also won the Horizon award at the Scottish Trad Music awards in December 2008.

Both are outstanding singers. In December 2011, Siobhan received the accolade of achieving a win in the category of the Scots Singer of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. They met while studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow where they began to explore and develop their shared love for song.

Jeana, who who plays fiddle, Hardanger fiddle and piano, as well as being an accomplished singer, comes from Orkney. Siobhan is from Penicuik. Singing is in her blood since both her parents are accomplished performers. She first appeared at the Traditional Song and Music Association of Scotland Festival at Auchtermuchty when only 13 years old and has won both children’s and women’s singing competitions there. Their repertoire covers the whole spectrum of traditional and contemporary song. Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club next Tuesday for what is guaranteed to be a great evening of music and song. Doors open from 7.30 pm with the band on stage at 8pm.
